CEO Addresses Wake Tech BLET Cadet Candidates regarding Dep. Ned Byrd Scholarship

This morning our Founder and CEO, Lindsay LiCausi, had the opportunity to speak to a class of aspiring Police Cadets at Wake Tech's BLET Orientation in regards our the Deputy Byrd Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship, which will be granted once a year, will allow a cadet to attend the next Wake Tech BLET Program completely sponsored by this scholarship (to include tuition, campus fees, books, equipment, uniforms, etc). Cadet candidates who are not already sponsored by an agency will be considered.

The scholarship recipient will be chosen by our board based on a combination of merit, dedication, service, and financial need. It is our goal to sponsor a cadet, who otherwise may not be able to pay for the program, to complete BLET and serve their community as a Law Enforcement Officer.

Lindsay LiCausi gave the following speech,

"It is an honor to stand before you today as we gather to discuss an exciting opportunity that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of police cadet training. Today, I am delighted to share with you a scholarship opportunity that not only recognizes your commitment to public service but also empowers you to reach greater heights in your pursuit of excellence.

This opportunity is the Deputy Ned Byrd Scholarship, established in the name of Fallen Deputy Ned Byrd who served the Wake County Sheriff’s Office after completing the BLET Program through Wake Tech. Deputy Byrd was a man who was dedicated to serving his community through policing until his final sacrifice on August 11th, 2022 when he was shot and killed investigating a suspicious vehicle.

Policing is a noble profession that requires dedication, integrity, and a genuine desire to serve and protect the community. We understand the sacrifices you make to undergo the rigorous training required to become a police cadet. It is this commitment that sets you apart and makes you deserving of opportunities that can further enrich your journey.

The Deputy Ned Byrd Scholarship is not just a financial incentive; it is a symbol of recognition for your hard work and potential. This scholarship has been established with the belief that investing in the education and professional development of aspiring police officers is an investment in the safety and well-being of our communities.

To be considered for this scholarship, we encourage you to reflect on your journey thus far and to articulate your vision for the impact you hope to make as a police officer. The application process is not just about academic achievements; it's about passion, dedication, and a commitment to the principles of justice and service.

I encourage each and every one of you to consider applying for this scholarship. Seize this opportunity not just for yourself, but for the communities you aspire to serve. Your dedication deserves recognition, and this scholarship is a small token of our gratitude for your commitment to the values of justice, integrity, and public service.

Thank you, and best of luck in your pursuit of excellence as police cadet candidates."
